Common Ground on the
Hill, Scotland Book your tickets and accommodation as soon as possible. Reserve your tickets and rooms with either a deposit or full payment. 'Common Ground Season Ticket' - £135 For resident students there is an all-inclusive 'Common Ground Season Ticket' covering most activities during the week. This includes tuition, workshops, masterclasses and late night extras. Some of the trips out and evening events outside of Oswald Hall may be subject to extra charges to cover transport and any external tickets. This season ticket covers the tuition week (Sunday afternoon until Friday tea-time) is £135. Day tickets and tickets for individual workshops and masterclasses will be available but we encourage you to sign up as far a possible for the inclusive tickets. Developing a sense of community is important to the Common Ground experience. No one class or activity is more important than another, a walk by the river may be every bit as rewarding as an intensive tuition period. Some art or craft classes may include an extra materials fee which will generally be payable directly to your tutor. During the week there will be options to include visits to local 'cultural attractions' which will range from a magnificent castle to a countryside walk. We will try to include these within our season ticket, but there may be some additional costs for options that you may want to add. As far as possible we will try to keep any extra costs to a minimum. The children's programme is free of charge to children who attend Common Ground with parents or guardians participating in Common Ground. Our intention is to make family participation as easy and rewarding as possible. Housing and Meals - £180 "Halls of Residence" student accommodation with cafeteria-style meals is £180 for the week. (Sunday evening until Friday lunchtime.) We have not been able to confirm the college prices for this year, so this is a 'guide price' based on last year. This is an 'inclusive price' and generally covers all meals. During our trips out we are likely to provide packed lunches or arrange for basic meals as appropriate. At times you may want to sample some of the high-life on offer - go out with friends for a special meal or just treat yourself. Our intention is to provide sufficient food to keep you fit and well. Meals commence with a Sunday evening dinner (vegetarian and vegan meals are available). Monday to Friday, breakfast, lunch and evening meal. Snacks are available to purchase at the cafeteria and shop. The final meal of Common Ground is lunch on Friday 5th August. Rooms are mostly single occupancy, clean and comfortable but not en suite. There are some double rooms available but charges are on the same individual basis. If you are coming as a family and want accommodation and meals, contact us to discuss your requirements. We should be able to come up with price variations for children dependant on various factors. Again, our intention is to make family participation as easy and rewarding as possible. If you are staying on for the Common Ground Festival Weekend, accommodation is available. A three-night package - Friday, Saturday and Sunday, is available for an additional fee of £45. This does not include any meals other than breakfast. Meals will be available during the festival on a 'pay as you eat' basis. If you are extending your stay after the festival of Common Ground, you may still use accommodation at the college. Further details on request. The Festival Weekend The Festival events from Friday evening until Sunday are not part of the Common Ground Season Ticket. We hope that you may choose to combine workshops and festival, but you may book only for the workshop week or only for the festival weekend.
Campsite Facilities for tents and caravans will be available for Common Ground and the festival. The campsite area is close to Oswald Hall and there are good toilet and shower facilities. There is a flat rate camping fee of £25 for the week or £15 for the weekend. This charge is per tent or caravan rather then per person. The campsite is intended for participants in Common Ground or The Common Ground Folk Festival and all campers will have to have some kind of event ticket. If you are attending as a couple; as a family or as a group of friends, not all members may want to attend the events. It is not our intention to create a free campsite facility for casual visitors, but site tickets will be available for people who are accompanying Common Ground and Festival participants. Pets are not allowed on site owing to veterinary restrictions imposed by the college. (Guide dogs excepted) Alternative Camping facilities are available nearby; details on request. A list of Bed & Breakfast, Hotel and Travel Lodge accommodation is available on request. Disabled access Most venues have full disabled access. If you have difficulty with access please contact us to discuss your requirements and we will do all we can to help you enjoy the event in a dignified manner. |
