Our Mission Statement

The following is a quote from the program booklet for the Traditions Workshops at Common Ground on the Hill, 2001.

"Common Ground on the Hill is a traditional music and arts organisation whose purpose is to offer a quality learning experience with master musicians, artists, writers and crafts people while exploring cultural diversity in search of a 'common ground' among ethnic, gender, age and racial groups."

"Common Ground recognises that our world is one of immense diversity but that as we explore and celebrate this diversity, we find that what we have in common with one another far outweighs our differences. The 'common ground' is our humanity, often best expressed in our music, our art, our dance and even our language and peaceful solutions to our cultural and inner conflicts can be found in our shared artistic traditions."

This might sound all too flowery, especially with our Scots reserve, but our experience as attendees at Common Ground is that it does create a climate that both supports the art and enriches our experience. It brings interesting people together and adds a genuine social inclusion agenda to the project.

We are pleased to be developing a partnership project in Scotland and happy to endose the ethos of Common Ground on the Hill
