In Search of Common Ground

Instructor: Ira Zepp & Lea Gilmore

Duration: Single period. This flagship course in the curriculum will seek dialogue and common ground on issues that effect us as artists and members of the human race in the 21st Century.

From our experience as artists and human beings, we will have a dialogue arising from our life together here at Common Ground on the Hill and in the larger society. In an atmosphere of trust and safety, and inspired by song and story, we will listen to and learn from the voices of our sisters and brothers from numerous ethnic communities.

We will attempt to answer such questions as: What are the artistic and political forces that create prejudice and tolerance? Is racism a virus or just ignorance? How do class issues determine our perceptions of each other? How can we retain our ethnic identity and achieve human community?
