Management & Committees

Constitution: Common Ground Scotland is a company limited by guarantee and with charitable status (a 'Not for Profit' organisation to use American terminology).

We currently have two formally appointed Directors, Tommy Truesdale and Colin McNab who share legal responsibility for the management of Common Ground Scotland as a Company.

Pete Heywood is the Chief Executive of Common Ground. Subject to any supervisory powers that may be given by the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive shall be Common Ground's Chief Executive Officer and shall, subject to the control of the Board, have general supervision, direction and control over Common Ground's business and affairs. The Chief Executive shall have the general powers and duties of management usually vested in a company's Managing Director. The Chief Executive shall be a member of the Board, and shall be ex officio a member of all communities of the board.

During 2006, there were strains within the management committee which led to the resignation of one of the former Directors, Paul Creighton. The Board is committed to developing effective means of managing the affairs of Common Ground so that they best reflect the broad range of interests and views of our members and participants.

Their current thinking is that there is a need for effective delegation of key tasks, and that these tasks may be best achieved through direct approaches to individuals who have shown the desire and capability of performing these tasks, rather than working within formal committee and sub committee structures. The Board intends to consult as widely as possible with members and participants so that we can develop our activities in line with their expectations and within the resouces of the Company.

The Board asks for understanding and support from all members during this coming transitionary period.

For your information, the following structure, which formed the basis of our initial management plans, is given below.
